Gary Hamilton (Klaus Kinski), a former army officer, is sentenced to forced labor in prison for an attempted robbery. But it was a friend of his, Acombar, who committed the crime and framed Hamilton by leaving his water bottle at the scene as evidence. Ten years later, Hamilton is pardoned on the basis of his military record and returns to his hometown, determined to take revenge on Acombar and his wife Mary (Hamilton's former girlfriend of , who betrayed him for Acombar).
